anything).

Secondly, in the last sentence the

Foreign Office say that grants from the Trade

Loan Fund have for some time ceased. I do

not know where they got this impression, but

it is not strictly accurate. A comparison of

the return of the position at the end of 1927

(No. 7 on 52737/28) with the return of the

position at the 30th June, 1928, (No.16 on 52727/28) shows that fresh loans amounting to

$75,000 were issued during those six months,

although of course the repayment of other loans

considerably exceeded the fresh ones. No

returns have been received later then ('hi far

30th June, 1928, so that we cannot say definitely

whether any further loans have been granted.

The words underlined in the Foreign Office draft

should therefore be amended to read as follows:

few fresh grants from the Trade Loan Fund

are now being made.
